Simplon.co is a social enterprise that offers free intensive training in web-based professions. Available worldwide and open to all, its main goal is to help integrate underprivileged members of society and job seekers, in particular categories that are under-represented in web-based professions. From the outset, Simplon.co has been an international enterprise. Today it is looking to bolster its operations in the European Union, West Africa, the Maghreb and the Middle East.
A partner of the Foundation since 2015
The Foundation supported Simplon.co in 2015 when it opened a school in the northern districts of Marseilles in France, in 2016 when it developed a structure in the Greater Paris Area, and last year when it deployed a national programme to teach coding to young people and opened a Simplon school in Dakar in partnership with Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie. Simplon was also named a key partner for the Africa region in March 2018.
Digital services are getting organised in Africa with training provided by Simplon
Funded by the Societe Generale Foundation, Simplon offers free training in digital professions at its schools. The goal? To promote the vocational integration of thousands of people with few prospects of finding work by building new skills for the economies of Africa.
Key partner for the Africa region since March 2018
Simplon African Tech Bridges (ATB) is a three-year project (2018-2020) to help structure the digital sector in Africa, initially in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Tunisia, and at a later stage in Cameroon, Madagascar and Algeria.
This entails a significant change of approach for Simplon.co's deployment on the African continent, with the creation of individual enterprises in several countries.
Opening of a Coding School in Abidjan
The Societe Generale Foundation, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and Simplon launch Côte d'Ivoire's first inclusive computer code school: "La fabrique inclusive du numérique" on December 6, 2018. The school offers young Ivorians a seven-month training course, including a one-month internship, in the profession of Web and Mobile Developer.
For over 100 years, Societe Generale has been present in Africa and today counts activities in 18 countries. Beyond our commitment to local economies, the Group also supports and partners numerous charitable associations and projects through its Foundation and other local initiatives encouraging, for example, professional integration, the fight against social insecurity and skills development.
CARE works to help the poorest of people in more than 90 countries (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe), setting up development programmes around education, equality, food and water safety, sanitisation, the environment, micro-entrepreneurship, healthcare and human rights.
