Sector policies

Societe Generale has implemented sector policies that define the standards the Group applies to sectors considered potentially sensitive from an environmental and social (E&S) perspective.

Societe Generale has established sector policies covering 10 sectors. For each sector, these policies outline the main inherent E&S risks associated with the sector’s activities, the reference standards, as well as the specific criteria used by the Group to assess its corporate clients and dedicated transactions for which the underlying activities are clearly identified.

These sector policies are aligned with the Group’s environmental and social General Principles, which define the general framework applicable to these issues. The E&S General Principles are accompanied by the Statement on Human Rights.

These E&S General Principles make reference to the Equator Principles, to which the Group has been a signatory since 2007. Adopted by 127 financial institutions, the Equator Principles provide a risk management framework for project finance – typically projects with total capital costs of USD 10 million or more and define methodologies to identify, assess and manage the E&S impacts associated with such projects.
