Societe Generale addresses an open letter to all those engaged in combating climate change asking them to stop attacking our staff. We say yes to solutions and no to excessive behaviour.
Commitments & achievements in the fight against global warming
On the occasion of the COP 21 meeting and the Paris Agreement in 2015, Societe Generale made stringent commitments to align its activities by 2020 with the International Energy Agency's (IEA) trajectory to limit global warming to 2°C.
Following this, the Bank adopted a proactive and responsible policy to assist customers in their energy transition by accelerating support for renewable energies, while at the same time gradually reducing its financing of carbon energies activities. To steer this global commitment, the Group has implemented governance, risk management, measurement and monitoring tools to offer the most suitable responses to the transformation taking place to decarbonise the economy.
Taking action to help strengthen purchasing power
Following yesterday's meeting at the President of France’s Elysée Palace in Paris and in a spirit of national solidarity, Societe Generale announced measures in favour of purchasing power and specific financing to support the energy transition.

380 amateur musicians and chorists, all Societe Generale staff members from France, Romania and Senegal, performed alongside professional musicians of the "Les Siècles" orchestra and joined by a group of children from the Démos project, which aims to open up classical music to young children and is also supported by Societe Generale
Opening of a Coding School in Abidjan
The Societe Generale Foundation, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and Simplon launch Côte d'Ivoire's first inclusive computer code school: "La fabrique inclusive du numérique" on December 6, 2018. The school offers young Ivorians a seven-month training course, including a one-month internship, in the profession of Web and Mobile Developer.
GROW WITH AFRICA”,a growth plan across the african continent
During a press trip to Dakar, Societe Generale group confirmed the solid growth of its African operations, in line with its “Transform to Grow” strategic plan. As part of the launch of its “Grow with Africa” programme, the Bank also announced several initiatives in partnership with international, regional and local clients and institutions in order to meet sustainable development needs in Africa.
Green Finance achieves a new milestone in the Middle East
Masdar’s deployment of green financing options previously unseen in the region is advancing the sustainability agenda.
Masdar, the United Arab Emirates-government-owned investor in global clean technology and sustainable real estate, has signed a green revolving credit facility, the first in the Middle East and the latest example of the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. The loan will be used for general corporate purposes as per the core business of Masdar, supporting both the diversification of the UAE economy and energy sources for the benefit of future generations.
