Own operation emissions

Reducing the Group’s own operation emissions
As part of its CSR approach, for several years now Societe Generale has been committed to a proactive reduction of its own operation emissions.
In 2021, the Group announced a target of cutting its own carbon emissions by 50% between 2019 and 2030 by acting on energy consumption in buildings, IT, business travel and its car fleet. At end-2025, the Group had reduced its own carbon footprint by 44%1 compared with 2019, in line with its target.

Reducing the Group’s digital footprint
The Group continues its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of digital activities.
Several concrete, measurable and monitored initiatives have been deployed:
- migration of legacy data centers to more energy-efficient sites, with systematic use of renewable energy for data centers in France and gradual rollout internationally;
- circular economy initiatives. For example, the Group signed a partnership in 2019 with Recycléa in France to recycle and recover waste electrical and electronic equipment;
- training IT experts in eco-design.
Reducing the environmental impact of the Group’s real estate
The Group is lowering the carbon emissions of its sites around the world by:
- adjusting real estate surfaces to business needs;
- implementing energy consumption reduction actions, adapted to our sites and to each building’s use. In France, the Group signed the Ecowatt Charter in 2022;
- sourcing renewable energy and deploying, where relevant, self-generation solutions. In France, the Group signed a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA), a long-term contract between a renewable electricity producer and a consumer.
The Group also carries out initiatives to promote circular economy and reduce water consumption in its buildings.
Since signing the Eco d’Eau Charter, Societe Generale has been raising employee awareness and deploying solutions to moderate water consumption across its buildings.
The Group is investing in the automation of energy consumption data collection to improve data quality and better steer its decarbonization trajectory.
Reducing the carbon footprint of travel
The Group is working to reduce CO2 emissions, emissions linked to business travel. Societe Generale is therefore reducing the frequency of business travel and promoting lower-emission alternatives, such as rail when available.
Within the Group’s car fleet, the share of electric cars is increasing in France and in countries where conditions allow. The Group complies with the Mobility Law (“LOM”, or Loi d’Orientation Mobilité), and is renewing its professional fleet with electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
At the same time, the Group has continued to deploy electric charging stations across its sites, with around 260 charging points installed, and more than 900 spaces dedicated to bicycles and scooters in its main buildings in the Paris region.
Limiting single-use plastic
Since end-2023, single-use plastic has been gradually phased out from catering services in central functions, subsidiaries and the SG network in France. This includes, for example, the introduction of reusable container systems and the provision of reusable cutlery in main buildings in the Paris region.
At end-2025, the Group had eliminated petroleum-sourced single-use plastics from employees’ working environments in France and has initiated steps for global deployment where feasible.
