The Corporate Touch Rugby Tournament in London!
The sun was shining on 6 June as more than 1,000 people gathered at Twickenham’s famous stadium to participate in The Corporate Touch Rugby Tournament with Societe Generale.
Bringing together employees, clients and children from local schools in Tower Hamlets that the bank supports through its educational mentoring programmes, the day began with a children’s rugby academy and a mixed touch rugby family tournament, which saw each group come together and compete with their friends and family.
As the temperatures soared, so did the competition! 22 Corporate teams took to the pitch in the afternoon and through a series of heats the groups were whittled down to two finalists: “Try before you Buy” and “Scrummers”. Jonny Wilkinson kicked off the final, but despite the presence of the sporting legend there was no distracting the finalists. With the game going to extra time, a last-minute try from ‘Try before you buy’ helped them clinch the tournament title.
This unique event builds on the activities Societe Generale has planned for the coming weeks in the build up to RWC 2015.
All the players enjoyed the event:
"Wow, that was brilliant! Both my sons said it was their best day of their lives. They couldn't believe they got to meet the players; they wore their signed t-shirts to school today and have vowed not to wash their hands ever again (when they got handshakes/high -fives). My younger son, who doesn't play rugby now wants to play rugby, so you have succeeded where I failed. And the son that played with me in the family tournament was over the moon to score a try and make it to the final! And, of course, the organisation was superb!"
"Just a quick note to say a huge thank you for Saturday, my son and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a great day. Never in a million years did he ever think that he would appear on the stadium screen in Twickenham but it happened! Many many thanks to you and the team from Thomas and I for putting on such a brilliant event."
"I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and your team for hosting such a fabulous day. I am still walking around with an ear-to-ear grin. It was brilliant fun, and wonderfully run. Many thanks. It was a day I don't think any of my team will forget in a hurry."
"What can I say about Saturday, another truly first class event put on by the events team – on behalf of Sarah & the boys thank you so much for all your hard work, help and hospitality to make it such a memorable day."
"If I told you that I am a HUGE rugby fan myself, so much so that my wife and I had our wedding reception at Twickenham Stadium in April this year you will have some idea of how excited I am personally about it! We had an amazing day that day - it really was the spirit of rugby and the only thing missing from the day was we weren't allowed onto the pitch at all so Saturday is quite literally a dream come true."
