Rugby World Cup the Indian way

On 17 October, Societe Generale Global Solution Centre (SG GSC) in India hosted its own version of the Rugby World Cup by organising its very first rugby league. Played in the two cities of Bangalore and Chennai, the tournament saw a total of 24 Societe Generale teams participating with a lot of gusto. The tournament was a great success and brought colleagues together over rugby – a game that embodies team spirit, strength, resilience and a lot of fun! The participants are already looking forward to the next league and hope to come back stronger.

Wheelchair rugby workshops

Since the start of the Rugby World Cup, the French Network has been organising wheelchair rugby awareness events in order to give employees, clients, prospects and partners the opportunity to discover this alternative form of rugby, as well as Societe Generale's commitment to disabled sport. Angers, Bayonne, Bobigny, Grenoble, Limoges, Montauban and Saint Omer have already organised workshops and events, followed by showings of French national team matches.

On the pitch at the Jean-Bouin stadium

A Societe Generale event was organised at the Jean-Bouin stadium in Paris to watch the France V Ireland World Cup match on a giant screen. Staff attended this family event along with the Societe Generale ambassadors, led by former French international Émile Ntamack!

Broadcasting of the France V Ireland match

Throughout France, Societe Generale staff gathered to cheer on the France team against Ireland. Numerous initiatives were organised by the Bank’s branches, including team quizzes, talks by current and former French internationals (including Teddy Thomas and Rémy Martin), and other rugby-related activities.

Children from St Peter's partner school went to the London Olympic Stadium

Children from St Peter's partner school went to the London Olympic Stadium on the 7th of October to watch the South Africa versus USA match accompanied by three Societe Generale volunteers: Philippe Chaput, Julia Hughes and Li Xiaoqing.

Societe Generale Ambassadors on the pitch of RWC 2015

On the sidelines of England vs. Australia game, which was played Saturday 3 October at Twickenham, our rugby Ambassadors, Gonzalo Quesada, Ali Williams, and Christian Califano, intervened with the Group's teams to discuss about the common values in rugby and Societe Generale like team spirit.

Competition to find which branch is the best at supporting "Les Bleus"

Societe Generale staff have truly got onboard! Within the framework of the "Allez les Bleus" internal competition, 170 of our French bank branches have been decorated to symbolise the rugby spirit of their staff and show their support for the French team.

France V Italy broadcast in some of our French branches

The France V Italy World Cup match was on Saturday 19 September. A number of Societe Generale bank branches have organised broadcasts to enable staff to enjoy the event together.

Mobiasbanca celebrated the opening of Rugby World Cup 2015

On 18 September, on the stadium Anenii Noi was held an international tournament dedicated to the opening of Rugby World Cup 2015. The tournament was organized by the Rugby Federation of Moldova with the support of Mobiasbanca. The competition brought together 14 youth teams of different age groups, boys and girls from Romania, Ukraine and Moldova.

SGSS' clients meet the Springboks

Thanks to Societe Generale's association with the Rugby World Cup, SGSS Johannesburg's clients were afforded the opportunity to meet their Springbok hero's at the Springbok Farewell Dinner Banquet on the 8th of September 2015. Clients had the opportunity to meet and greet the Springboks and to convey their well wishes prior to the Springboks departure to the World Cup. Clients were delighted further when they learned that Patrick Lambie (Springbok Flyhalf) would be present on the Societe Generale table for dinner. The highlight of the evening was the capping of all 31 players selected for the Rugby World Cup which was televised in South Africa.

Inaugural touch rugby training clinic for children

On Saturday 22 August, volunteers from Societe Generale and Singapore Cricket Club held the inaugural touch rugby training clinic for some children in the community supported by Beyond Social Services. This is a new initiative which combines rugby and local community support - two focal points of Societe General's citizenship efforts in the region.
