A unique initiative in the corporate world
An orchestra and choir combining professional musicians and Societe Generale staff members: the third edition of Playing for Philharmonie de Paris took place on 6 and 7 November, 2016 at the Paris Philharmonic.
Playing for Philharmonie de Paris is a unique initiative in the corporate world enabling 300 amateur musicians from Societe Generale to play alongside musicians from the Les Siècles orchestra.
Playing for Philharmonie de Paris is part of the long-term partnership that has tied Societe Generale to the world of classical music for the last 30 years. This initiative is the result of close collaboration between Les Siècles and Societe Generale, which has supported the orchestra since 2007.
The Les Siècles orchestra was founded in 2003 by François-Xavier Roth, one of the most charismatic and enterprising conductors of his generation. With their deeply-held conviction that classical music can bring people together and enable them to flourish, the conductor and his musicians undertake educational actions in schools, colleges, hospitals and prisons. They carry out numerous innovative initiatives to make classical music accessible to everyone.
In 2013, the two partners created an innovative kind of patronage uniting employees of a large company and those of a major orchestra over their love of music. The Les Siècles musicians are supervising the rehearsals of the Societe Generale staff who are participating in Playing for Philharmonie de Paris.
Following the success of the previous editions of Playing for salle Pleyel in 2013 and 2014, Societe Generale is repeating the experience by incorporating choristers Morocco. For this third edition, musicians and singers will take the audience on a journey through the works of Wagner, Verdi, Grieg, Handel, Berlioz, Fauré and Beethoven, as well as works from Morocco.
This rich and contrasting programme will ring round the walls of a significant location for classical music: the Paris Philharmonic. Since this site opened in 2015, Societe Generale has been the main patron of the programming of major international orchestras. The group is supporting live broadcasts, on Radio Classique, of concerts by the New York Philharmonic, Statskapelle Berlin and London Symphonic Orchestra, amongst others.
Radio Classique broadcasted the Playing for Philharmonie de Paris concert on Wednesday 23 November, 2016 at 8 pm Paris time.
