5 October 2010: Société Générale takes note of the court’s verdict, which concluded that Jérome Kerviel was guilty of breach of trust, fraudulent introduction of data into an automated processing system, and forgery and use of forgeries.

The verdict is consistent with the criminal investigation and the trial, confirming that Jérôme Kerviel’s fraudulent acts were carried out without the bank’s knowledge, and acknowledging the considerable moral and financial prejudice suffered by the bank and its employees.

This is an important decision for Société Générale, its employees, its clients and its shareholders, in light of the exceptional nature of the fraud suffered by the bank.

Société Générale learned the lessons of this affair from the outset, and has committed significant human and financial resources to strengthening all of its controls.

The Group is now resolutely looking towards the future as it continues the implementation of its development and transformation strategy.
