HANDISPORT

Confidence and testing your limits

Societe Generale has been a partner of the Fédération française handisport (French Federation for Disabled Sports) since 2003, reflecting its commitment to sports that place testing your limits, confidence and mutual support above all other values.

We focus particularly on initiatives designed to promote the social inclusion of young disabled people. Our Challenge Société Générale Handijeunes rewards those specialist schools and rehabilitation centres that play the most active role in promoting these objectives.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Championships were held in Sestriere, Italy from 15 to 23 January. With 18 medals, including eight gold, six silver and four bronze, France headed the final medals table in front of 22 other countries and over 100 other athletes.

Société Générale congratulates the French paralympic alpine skiing team. A special mention must go to young team member Marie Bochet, who is supported by Societe Generale retail bank, and who showed great courage in adversity. After a serious fall in the first leg of the Super Combined, it looked like she would not be able to race in the Giant slalom. However, she took her place at the start, even though her neck was in a brace! She came second in the first run before winning the second run by more than a second. This was a first World Champion title for the youngest member of the team (17 years old), whose career is only just starting.

The 2010 Paralympic Games took place in Vancouver from 12th to 21st March. Societe Generale was particularly proud to accompany the athletes of the French Team on the Canadian slopes. The French delegation came away with six medals (one gold, four silver and one bronze) all in dowbhill events. As a result, they finished the competition in tenth place, which was in line with their objectives!

Now that the Olympic flame has gone out in Vancouver, the Group, on behalf of all its employees, would like to congratulate the 50 members of the French delegation for their outstanding performance on the Canadian slopes.

Good results for the French team at the 2010 Paralympic Games
