Since 1945, the association Secours populaire has helped provide children with a holiday. In 1979, it decided to launch “Journée des oubliés des vacances” for children deprived of a summer holiday. At the end of August every year, the children are taken away for at least a day, and come back full of unforgettable memories.
As a mother myself, I can’t bear the thought of children not having any holidays. All children need a change of scenery and a chance to discover somewhere new. As my daughter has this opportunity, I felt it was only natural that I should help other children get away for a day by the sea. So during the Citizen Commitment Week organised by the Group I signed up to take part.
I travelled with around 30 children from a town called Colombes. Their joy when we arrived at Cabourg was indescribable and really heart warming.

As I was with the team of volunteer lifeguards, I really got to feel how happy they were. The team of volunteers was really nice. The children enjoyed all the activities organised for them on the beach, and they also liked the booklets about children’s rights.
The organisation was impeccable, and the sight of 5,000 children on the beach was really impressive!
Everything went without a hitch and I would definitely do it again.
