The Historical Mission was etablished in December 2005 to perpetuate and enhance the historical heritage of Societe Generale, in view of the company's 150th anniversary in 2014.

Societe Generale's Historical Mission supports scientific research by offering research grants to students, young researchers following a university course in history or other disciplines (economic science, sociology, architecture, etc.). It also supports the organisation of scientific symposia.

University researches

Work conducted

• Elodie Pégot, master 2  at the University of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines: "Female employees during the interwar period: Societe Generale example".
• Matthieu Limousin, master 2 at the University of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines: "Bank employees disputes during the interwar period".
• Gergana Taneva, Phd student at the University of Bordeaux IV: "Financial deployment by Societe Generale in Bulgaria".
• Anabelle Perdrieau, Phd student at the University of Paris-X Nanterre: "Societe Generale and the financing of companies in France and Germany during the Second World War".

Scientific symposia

The Historical Mission also supports the organisation of scientific symposia

2007: Symposium organised by the "Sport, socety and culture" research group of Sciences Po Paris, entitled "Rugby: from the village to the global" ; 2008: study session, entitled "Bank and Globalisation" and organised by M. Lescure, Professor at the University of Paris-X Nanterre ;  2009: Bank and area of operation" symposium organised by P. Mioche, Professor at the University of Aix-Marseille.
